Sam O. Kesten is an Associate Attorney at the firm. His practice focuses on Elder Law and Probate and Estate Litigation. Sam is a trial-tested litigator who knows how to successfully navigate and resolve conflict, whether in court or through the process of negotiation.
Sam enjoys working closely with his clients to find efficient resolutions to even the most challenging situations. He strives to reach innovative settlements, either informally or through mediation. However, when necessary, he is a confident courtroom advocate, prepared to relentlessly fight to achieve the best results for his clients.
Sam began his legal career in California in 2015 as a law clerk at the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, where he assisted experienced attorneys in the Gangs Unit prosecuting homicides. He was quickly promoted to the office’s Honors Law Clerk program, where he handled the research, writing, and argument of his own motions and trial preparation.
During law school, Sam served as the Publications Editor for the Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law. In his first year, he received the Witkin Award distinction in Tort Law and Contract Law and won the school-wide Galloway Moot Court competition. He also volunteered as an advocate in the domestic violence practicum.
After graduating from law school in 2017, he was hired as a Deputy District Attorney. He spent the next five years advocating on behalf of crime victims and transforming law enforcement policy concerning behavioral health.
Sam is unwavering in his desire to serve the public. He spent years working as a middle school educator, running youth programs for The City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Library and Community Services, and with not-for-profit groups. While an undergraduate, he was awarded the Xochitl Ramos Award for his efforts to secure and supervise a grant program through The Los Angeles Unified School District.
In his spare time, Sam can be found tranquilly fly-fishing, hiking with his dog, gardening, and spending time with his family.
